Structure of the Production Orale DELF A2
The test consists of three parts:
1. Guided Interview (Entretien dirigé) - approx. 1 minute 30
Without preparation. The examiner asks you to introduce yourself and talk about your life, hobbies, job, or studies. It is fuller than A1.
Example: “Tell me about your family” or “What did you do last weekend?” (Requires usage of Passé Composé).
2. Monologue (Monologue suivi) - approx. 2 minutes
You prepare this part during the 10 minutes beforehand. You pick two topics and choose one. You must speak continuously on the topic.
Topics: Describe your best friend, describe your last vacation, talk about your favorite festival, talk about your daily job.
Clarification: The examiner might ask a few questions at the end to help you expand.
- Interactive Exercise (Exercice en interaction) - approx. 3 to 4 minutes
Also prepared. You have to solve a situation with the examiner. Unlike A1 (transaction), in A2 it often involves organizing something or negotiating with a friend/colleague.
Scenarios: Organizing a birthday party for a friend, choosing a movie to watch at the cinema together, deciding on a gift.
Key skills: Proposing (“On pourrait…”), Accepting/refusing (“D’accord”, “Non, je préfère…”), Justifying (“Parce que…”).
Official Evaluation Criteria
Specifics for Level A2:
1. Phonetics: Clear enough so the interlocutor does not have to make an effort to understand.
2. Grammar: Correct use of simple structures. Beginning to use past tenses (Passé Composé/Imparfait) properly, but errors are still tolerated.
3. Vocabulary: Enough words to deal with daily needs and descriptions.
4. Interaction: Can start and maintain a conversation. Can ask for clarification if something is not understood.
Example Monologue Topic (Part 2)
Topic: Describe your last holiday.
Candidate expectation:
“Last year, I went to Spain with my family. We took the car. We stayed in a hotel near the beach. Every day, we swam in the sea. The weather was very hot. We also visited Barcelona and ate Paella. It was fantastic because I love the sun.”
Note the use of past tense (“I went”, “We stayed”, “We swam”). This is key for A2.
